This is a very nice example of a German Cavalry Basket Hilt Sword, M1852/79 mounted with a beautiful Damascus Blade as well as wears a whistle guard. The blade is slightly curved with a quillback and measures 34 5/8 inches in length. The blade boasts a gorgeous Damascus pattern which is accentuated with gold wash and etching near the guard and is well marked with the logo of "ALEX COPPEL" just next to the guard. The plated basket guard also remains nice however has some old pitting scars on the inner side and frames a lovely fishskin wrapped hilt which remains healthy as well. The quillion wears a signal whistle that does remain in good working order. The metal scabbard reflects cleaning from recent years, nevertheless also remains in good serviceable condition. Overall measuring 41 3/4 inches in length. (please note other items shown as props are not included in this auction)
